Friends News - January 2023
We wish you all a Happy and Healthy New Year and look forward to your support during 2023. We have a most interesting and varied range of evening speakers lined up for your enjoyment during the year - click here to see our programme of events.
The financial year of All Saints Church runs from January to December, so we are now aligned with that to make Treasurer duties simpler. Membership of the Friends may be renewed anytime from now going forward, or perhaps at the February evening meeting. As you will have worked out, up to now, the evening talks have been heavily subsidised which is not the purpose of The Friends. We are, therefore, raising the joining fee to £15 per annum per person and are also in the process of applying for a bar licence so that we are able to charge you for the wine – at a very reasonable price. Until we manage to resolve the bar licence we will continue to offer you a glass of wine at no cost. Guests will be welcome at meetings and can pay on the door. Joining details below, for those wishing to sign up on line.
We very much look forward to seeing you at our first meeting of 2023 when Tim Key will be speaking to us about his Bird watching around the World on Thursday 2 February 2023, 7.00pm.
In the mean time some diary dates for further planned fund raising events are:
We have reviewed the open garden and plant stall event and have decided, because of logistical problems, that we will hold only a Plant Stall on Sunday 21 May 2023 in Newton with refreshments to be available in the Parish Hall. The timing is to coincide with the period when we are all looking to plant up our garden for the summer, so should you be dividing plants, or growing more than needed, perhaps you could contribute to the stall, or alternatively fill your garden from our stall. There will be vegetables as well as garden plants for sale.
Then, on Saturday & Sunday, 15 & 16 July, we are planning a Quilt & Craft Show when we are organising an exhibition of Quilts and embroidery in the Church and are exploring other crafts too. Again refreshments will be available in the Parish Hall on both days where there will also be craft stalls and craft demonstrations staged over the weekend. We do plan to link the church with the parish hall, after obtaining relevant permissions, by hanging bunting between the venues. Should you feel you can contribute to the making of bunting, or have a supply, then please make yourself known to us; we do have a supply of material that you may use. Yarn bombing is also being investigated … do any of you have any experience to offer with this? Thank you to those who have already volunteered items for the exhibition, every contribution helps.
We look forward to seeing you at our next evening meeting on Thursday 2 February 2023, 7.00pm.
